Some details of my professional experience.

Senior Press officer, Newcastle City Council, 2006-2010: Holding responsibilities for Children and Young People’s Services required me to develop an in-depth working knowledge of issues like school improvement, education welfare, special educational needs and safeguarding issues and required day to day interaction with senior members of staff at Newcastle’s 100 primary and secondary schools: advising heads and other senior school leaders on how to communicate everything from Ofsted inspection reports to serious resources issues.

Communications Manager, Sunderland Software City: Senior position in local economic development agency involved working closely with local schools and education providers to assist the development of their curriculum to help develop the regional software workforce and to enthuse young people about careers in software.

Councillor, Durham County Council, 2013-2017: I was a member on the council’s Children and Young People scrutiny panel, scrutinising all council decisions relating to school and young people.

Since leaving Durham County Council Council, I now sit on the school Governing body as an Associate member and look forward to supporting the school to deliver continued and sustained improvements.
