Learning Outside of the Classroom

What is LOtC?

Learning Outside of the Classroom is the use of places other than a traditional classroom for teaching and learning, such as the school grounds, museums, natural spaces, going on visits and having visitors into school.

Our vision at Stanley Crook Primary School is to take learning outside of the classroom wherever possible. Learning outside the classroom benefits students by improving academic achievement, boosting confidence and social skills, enhancing physical and mental health and fostering a deeper connection with the environment. These experiences provide real-world context for learning, encouraging problem-solving, creativity, and a love for learning.

LOtC Curriculum

In our school, teachers plan to take lessons outside of the classroom once per week in addition to educational visits and visitors.

Career Conversations – You can only be what you can see

Children in year 5 and 6 receive half termly career conversations through Positive Footprints. Career Conversations are designed to create lightbulb moments for children and young people. They open up the world of work and are a place where inspirational people share real stories. The children have took part in conversations with: a weather forecaster, an educational psychologist, the police, an author, a perfumer and many others.
