School Led Tutoring

Summary

School-Led Tutoring is part of the National Tutoring Programme (NTP). Eligible state-funded schools receive a ring-fenced grant to source their own tutoring provision for disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils who have missed the most education due to COVID-19.

Disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in significant missed education by pupils. Disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils have been particularly impacted. Tutoring is one of the most effective tools for helping pupils recover lost education and many pupils have already benefited this year from the NTP. In September 2022 the Government continued the tutoring offer to schools, with funding to support its delivery. The Government will also continue to provide a tuition offer into the 2023-24 academic year.

As part of the School-Led Tutoring programme Stanley Crook Primary School focused on the year 6 cohort as part of the academic catch-up. Two groups of 6 children were chosen to receive 15 hours tuition in a small, focused group.

One groups focus was academic catch up and the second groups focus is, social and emotional development following the “Spark Resilience Programme” concentrating on specific learning targets.

IMPACT

Everyone in school is extremely pleased with the positive impact in progress and attainment of the children involved in tuition since it began in 2021. All children who have participated in tutoring have made excellent progress – whether academically or within their own personal development.

Please take a look at the excellent progress which children in the two cohorts last year made!

Feedback

Have a look at some parent feedback from the School Led Tutoring Programme.

F and S are enjoying the tuition programme. They both love the small group and being able to work on things they struggle with, away from the class.

I am very happy with how the tutoring is going. The small group works well for them, especially S. They are both growing in confidence.
