The School Councillors and I enjoyed an engaging and informative meeting on Friday. We discussed a range of planned school improvement projects and the School Council presented some interesting ideas for further improvements. During the meeting, I enjoyed taking the pupils on a tour of the EYFS outdoor area to highlight the new equipment which has recently been purchased to improve outdoor learning provision for the team. Well done to our outstanding School Councillors who do such an amazing job in making a positive difference to Stanley Crook Primary School!
Good luck to our pupils in Team 2 and Team 5 as they look forward to competing in the Dance Festival tomorrow! Team 2 will be performing their fabulous ‘Dino Dance’ and Team 5 will be showcasing their outstanding Indian Dance. Both sets of pupils will be suitably dressed for the occasion in full dinosaur costumes and traditional Indian outfits. Good Luck ‘Team Stanley Crook’!
Very well done to all pupils and staff in Team 3 for being awarded the Team of the Week certificate. There has been a great deal of hard work completed in Team 3 this week. In particular, the pupil’s work on our Going for Goals S.E.A.L. theme has shown that Team 3 has a positive ‘can do’ attitude and follows our school mission: To try our best, to tell the truth, to look after each other and our community.
To celebrate World Book Day, staff and pupils will be invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. We will also be supporting the World Book Day charity, ‘Readathon’. Through your generous contributions, we will be enabling this charity to purchase reading books and pay for storytellers for children in hospital. Thank you!
Staff in Key Stage One and Key Stage Two will be holding their annual Parent Information Meetings for parents of pupils in Year 2 and Year 6 in order to provide important information on the 2016 Standard Assessment Tests. This year’s assessments are the first under the new Primary National Curriculum. Therefore, it is important that parents/ carers try to attend as key details of the assessments and how best you can support your child at home will be shared.
Letters with additional information have been sent; however, if you require any further details, please contact the school office or your child’s class teacher.
As places are strictly limited for this valuable parent workshop, please contact the school office to book as soon as possible.
Well done to pupils in Team 2 for being awarded Team of the Week! Pupils have completed outstanding work this week around their ‘Dinosaur’ topic and computer programming. Mrs Martin and Mrs Shields have planned a wide range of exciting activities in class which have been enjoyed by all of the team. T.E.A.M. = Together Everyone Achieves More!
Our pupils in Team 4 will soon be participating in a joint project with Durham University. The Enthuse Science Project will provide our pupils with outstanding opportunities to develop their practical science skills through exciting learning activities.
I am pleased to be able to confirm that pupils in Year 5 will be participating within the prestigious Trinity College London Arts Award. Our school community feels extremely proud to be given this amazing opportunity to work with talented professionals in order to achieve this accreditation.
Pupils will be exploring a range of themes during the project and we are looking forward to celebrating their finished works with parents and carers at a special Learning Showcase Event.
I would like to wish everyone a very warm welcome back to school and best wishes for 2016! I hope that you and your families enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing Christmas break. We all have an extremely exciting term ahead with excellent learning opportunities for all pupils across the curriculum.
Our whole-school outing to Darlington Civic Theatre on Thursday will, as always, be an enjoyable day for all! This year, we are going to be entertained by Britain’s Got Talent winners, Ashleigh and Pudsey in ‘Cinderella’. I anticipate that the pupils will arrive back in Stanley Crook for approximately 5:15 p.m.. Unless arranged for collection from Sunniside, please collect your children from Moore’s Taxis/ Bus stop.
Best wishes again for a happy and healthy 2016.
